By Your Side

By Your Side By Kasie West is the latest book I decided to read. It is a Young Adult Romance story that's like all basic young adult novels, girl meets guy and then girl eventually falls in love with the guy. So now that I have board you to death, lets begin with the summary of the story. I honestly never know how to start the first paragraph๐Ÿค”, like should I add more about the book here or should I just jump into the review without an introduction. Okay guys enough about my anxiety lets get to the story, which is why your here for.

The main female character’s name is Autumn(btw love this name๐Ÿ˜‰). She ends up at the library for a study group, things go wrong and she some how gets trapped there. After a while, she comes to find out she is not alone in the library, their is a guy there too, dun dun duh( <—this part so much funnier in my head). The guy happens to be none other then Dax Miller, the bad boy at school, or is he really?๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘ฆ Eventually we find out that Autumn has Anxiety, which leads Dax to finally getting them out of the library, but that doesn’t end their new connection or does it, dun dun duh(again with that strange music, that is not really music since your writing this.๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ) Okay so I suppose you want to know more now right? But now I can’t really tell you the rest of the story can I? So I guess you will just have to buy it for yourself and find out how it ends, dun dun duh( <--okay for the last time, not as funny as it sounds).

As for the book overall, I gave it a  3 out of 5 stars๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ. I so enjoy Kasie West writing style, it flowed so easily together as the story continue. I loved that she wrote a young female, who deals with anxiety but I felt like it was the standard definition psychological text book anxiety. I felt like she was writing the character like a Doctor would talk about a patient. I always have this issue with authors who I feel like are not familiar with true patient feelings on anxiety (Sorry Kasie if I am wrong here). While I could see myself in the bouts of anxiety that Autumn was facing, it just didn’t feel real, if that makes sense. Now that is not to say that I don’t love Kasie's work because I really did enjoy this story. It was a great story about high school, friendships, and relationships between guys and girls. I would so recommend this book to any teenager who loves to read๐Ÿ“š. So now onto the cover of the book, I like the cover, its okay. To me it is the modern day typical Young adult novel cover for the American releases, which are usually very common and constantly use covers. As for Kasie west books in general,I will definitely be reading more of her books, simply because her writing style is bloody amazing(oh look the british side is coming out๐Ÿ˜‰). She honestly wrote a thumping good story (again brit bloodline, oh who the heck am I kidding, its my obsession with british tv that clauses these analogies๐Ÿ˜†). But really this story was such an easy, and fast read, I am sure you will enjoy it and I know your teenager will enjoy it, So go buy it already. As always all information for this book is listed below along with buying and contact information on the book and author.

Sampler of Nina LaCour "We Are Okay"

I have had We Are Okay by Nina LaCour on my book to buy list for weeks now and I can’t wait to buy it. So when I found a Sampler chap on Netgalley, I was like it can’t hurt to see if I like the book. I downloaded the sampler immediately. So here is my thoughts and feelings on the story so far.

The first things I notice about the sampler is that Nina, really draws you into this hauntingly descriptive story. I love that Nina is so descriptive, it makes me want to read the rest of the story. (which I will be doing as soon as I can). I could tell from the beginning of the sampler, that this story was about Mental Illness or something close to it. Only after sneaking around Goodreads, (by the way my Goodreads is link below, Shameless Plug,) that this story is actually about Grief, something that is personal to me. Nina’s writing was so good that I read the ebook sampler in one sitting, I can’t wait for the actual book. I love the eerie calm descriptiveness of the book, it attracts me even more. Of course I will have a better review up when I have read the actual book.(Personally, I retain more information from an actual book.)

So as for this sampler, right now I would totally give it a four out of five stars. I love the cover of the book, I feel like the colors and the way they are laid out fit the book so well. As I said I will be back with a bigger review when Ive read the book. All of the information for this author and the book will be listed below, as well as my information.

Chapter Sampler of Piper Perish

I have had Piper Perish by Kayla Cagan on my book to buy list for weeks now and I can’t wait to buy it. So when I found a Sampler chap on Netgalley, I was like it can’t hurt to see if I like the book. I downloaded the sampler immediately. So here is my thoughts and feelings on the story so far.

I would like to say I was annoyed that the Sampler seem to have 50 pages of book introduction before it actually got to the story. I am far more interest in the story then I am in having any of the book beginning papers. But as soon as I read the actual story part of the Sampler, I absolutely love Piper. I love the way that Kayla writes Piper with Spunk and toughness. I love that Piper just doesn’t want to settle, she wants to explore life. I feel like when I do buy the actual book, I will be able to elaborate more on the story but so far, I think Piper Perish will be one of the great New adults of 2017.

Right at this moment I would rate the story a four out of five stars, but thats only from the sampler. From the cover I see going around and what I saw in sampler, I love the cover and its color. I honestly can’t wait to read this book when its available March 7th. I will return with a blog and review after I read the book.

Under Rose Tainted Skies

Under Rose Tainted Skies is a wonderfully written book by Louise Gornall. I first noticed this book on what we called book tube or Youtube videos about books. After the tuber summarizes the story, I had noticed that it
was a contemporary young adult novel that dealt with Mental health in young adults. I also very much attracted to the beauty of the front cover. As you can see from above it looks like a very simple water painting of bright colors. Now onto the review of this awesome book.

This story covers a few different types of Mental health issues such as agoraphobia and OCD which leads to anxiety for Norah. I have to say I could relate to so much of what the main Character Norah was feeling in this book. In fact, several times I had moments of Oh My God, I understand that feeling so well about mental illness. It hard for people like Norah and myself to not want to feel guilty of the un-normalized things we have to do in order to survive.( OMG I can’t believe I am sharing this right now but I need to). Things that most people would think that a person would not need to exist for people to be “normal”.For example, Norah in the book said, people have told her, to just be happy and why can’t she get over her own thoughts or control them but it's not that simple. Trust me, from personal experience it is never that simple. We don’t have the “machinery” to just turn off the negativity button like most people do. I would like to add that the author states that the Mental Health descriptions in this book are very real because they are from her own real-life perspective. I know from reading so many young adult books that these type of Mental Health discussion parts of this book just can’t be reproduced. It's very hard in my opinion for teen books or any books to really discuss mental illness unless the author themselves have really face it. I think this is one of the reasons I simply adore this book. Now for more awesomeness from this book.

As I said through my rant above, Norah suffers from Mental illness but somehow ends up attracting the new next store neighborhood boy. The boy name is Luke, and he first notices Norah from her upstairs window. He comes over and Introduces himself to Norah, hoping to catch her attention. But slowly he becomes more aware of Norah Health. Eventually, things happen that lead their friendship to a possible romantic relationship which is when things happen to go bad. Then something major happens which literally leads Norah to Luke’s front door and it changes everything. But you will have to read the book if you wish to know more about this awesome life changing the story.

As for the book, I rated it a five out of five stars because I haven’t really seen a book like this before. It reminded me something, a book tuber by the Youtube name of Super Space Chick aka Kristen, once said: “that this is not a YA where if Girl follows in love with a Boy, it will magically fix all of her Mental Illness.” This book perfectly describes a regular teen awkward romance but at a slower pace. A pace that is healthy for the main female lead and her Mental Illness. I just have to say I love how the professional therapist was written in this book as well. The doctor was written in a very health doctor wants to help patient type of way. I honestly wish we all had, more Professional Mental Health Doctors like Norah’s in this world. I also wanted to add that this book is a very fast read. The letters are semi-big for the writing and the chapters are very short. I think the longest chapter was about four or five pages long which is not really that long. Also, the type spacing between the writing was very nice as well. I cannot honestly recommend this book enough and I hope to the Universe that Louise writes another book, because she is amazing. I suggest you go buy this book now, take a weekend to read it, because it's life-changing, especially if you're dealing with Mental Illness or have a loved one that deals with it. This book will give you such great real-life perspective on Mental Health and how people live with it. As always the Author information is listed below.

Ps: I had so much to say about this book and all of it was wonderful but I honestly would have spoiled it. This book will be on my favorite list for a long time and part of my heart forever. It truly is a Life Changing Read, and Louise, herself is truly deeply kind and amazing as well.

Fifth Petals

Fifth Petals is by Brunonia Barry, and after some research, I found out that the book was the second in the Lace Reader Series. I have never heard of this series before now. I received this Arc from Penguins Random House through Netgalley. The thing that mainly attract me to this book was the Colorful Cover. I usually am not a fan of American Covers but I did like this one. I also wanted to say I love the folk lore that is put into this book as well. Some of the Lore was from Ireland, and I love it.

The book is mainly about a Murder Mystery, involving magic that takes place in the Famous Salem Massachuetts.  The first part of this book opens up with a Murder, which involves three young girls and the local historian who eventually goes crazy. As the book continues we meet John Raferty who is now the local Salem Police Chief. Eventually. Callie Cahill the daughter of one of the dead women from the Murder decides to come home to Salem. She finds out along the way that not all is what it seems to be or what she was lead it to be about the Murder. Now if you wish to know the rest of the Mystery, I suggest you go read the book.

Overall this book was a really great suspense thriller. I rated a 3.5 out of 5 stars simply because I felt like somethings weren't clearly cover or where cover to little in the way of the Plot. I did love the mystery though and as your reading it, this book keeps your blood pumping. I really think I would have enjoy this book more if I had read it around Halloween time, since that is part of the Story. Overall if you love suspense, thrill and scary movie excitement, you will love this book. All information to purchase the book is listed below as always.

A darker Shade Of Magic

So the latest book I have read is apart of a continuing series By V.E. Schwab or Victoria Schwab ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“–. The first book is title  A Darker shade of magic๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ. I had heard a lot of buzz by many book bloggers on this series. So after seeing so many reviews. I read the summary and felt like I would love the magical aspects of the book along with the whole four Londons universe theme. So those are the reasons that attracted me to the series . A darker shade of magic is the first in what I believe will be a trilogy. So lets get on to the plot of the series peeps ..๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“–

This book is about a Young man name Kell,๐ŸŒš๐ŸŒš who possess magic, that helps him travel through alternate realities of his own world. See Kell's world is Red London, and its attach to three other Londons.. ๐Ÿ’‚๐Ÿ’‚Yes, you read that right.. three other Londons๐Ÿ’‚๐Ÿ’‚. So all four Londons are name as such, there is Black, Red, White and Grey London. Kell comes from Red London and has ties to its higher society. The only London, Kell can’t travel to is Black London for dark dread reasons. One day on one of his many travels to another London, he ends up with a magical rock๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ , which may or may not be from the dark Black London. But then he also happens to meets a young female rebel by the name of Lila๐Ÿ”ช๐Ÿ”ช. There are things that happen that cause Lila and Kell a lot of mischief and require them both to go back to Red London. As things progress Kell might be the only one who can maybe saved the Londons and the people in it. But if you want to know how Lila meets Kell or if Kell actually saves the Londons, I suggest you go pick up the series and read it.

Now as for the actual book, I love the covers on these books, they are so simple and well design. They remind me of my classic Ernest Hemingway novels. I also rated this book a 3 out of 5 stars simply for the pace. I felt like parts of this books were super slow and I had a hard time getting past them. While other parts where fast pace and easy to read, especially the end, the last few chapters seem really action pack with suspense.   With of all that being said I will still continue to read the series. I am not one to give up on a series even if the first book is just okay because you never know, the second or third could be amazing. I do have to say, there were times I was reading these books and it felt like I was reading mixture of Harry Potter and something else. I kind of like that feeling of having something similar to Harry Potter but more of an adult version I guess you could say. I really did enjoy this book and I can’t wait to read the last two. All of the information about this book and its author is listed below. ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰Please like, follow, share and comment๐Ÿ‘ˆ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

The book covers I was referring to above..

UnTamed by AG Howard

Yay,๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ I'm back and I know you all miss me for like five seconds. No literally, just like five seconds ago I posted another blog on AG Howard Ensnared ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. So you may be asking yourself, Well why are you back so soon then, Meli? Well, my dear lovely readers it because I couldn't wait to finish telling you about the AG Howard awesome Splintered Series. So let's get to it, shall we?

Untamed is the fourth book in the Splintered series but it not really apart of the Series. Wait? Huh? What? Well, you see it has three novellas aka short stories about the series in it. Each of the stories takes place at a different time in the series. One story is about Alyssa Mom, the Second about Morpheus and Jeb. The final is about Alyssa and Morpheus. Now let's get to the details.

Story one:"The boy in the Web":  Alyssa Mom, Allison is what this story is about๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ‘‘. Allison sort of takes you back down memory lane through her life. She discusses important decisions that we didn't understand in the series, decisions about her life and her husband's. This story just gives you more details on her life. This story alone personally would be rated a 2 out of five stars simply because I wasn't as invested in Allison as the rest of the characters๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒป.

Story two; "The Moth in the Mirror: This story is about Morpheus sorta of tricking the reader into going in Jeb's world๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ. But it also teaches Morpheus that he doesn't know everything about Jeb or Alyssa like he thinks and that if he opens his own eyes, he could learn more๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š๐Ÿ™Š. It is a cute simple story about Alyssa's Men. As a stand-alone I would have rated this a 2.5 out of five stars, simply because it was just one-sided in a way yet still tendered hearted.

Story three; "Six Impossible Things": This story was my absolute favorite๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’– of three novellas. It honestly could have been a whole book on its own, to simply end the series, the way many of us wanted it to end. It gave the final deep look conclusion that I believe was needed. The story is about Alyssa life and what happens, after all, is settle with Morpheus, Jeb, and Wonderland problems๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ’ซ. It is, simply put Alyssa ending to the madness. It made the whole book worth the buy, to be honest. I rated this story a five out of five stars because of how it was written๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž.

So my final thoughts on this series is that it is a great ending book to the series of Splintered. Do you need this book to finish the series, no not really but at the same time, I believe the final novella will give a better ending than Ensnared did. The covers on these books are absolutely stunning, colorful and beautiful. I loved all of the covers so much๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’“.  I cannot recommend this series enough and to be honest I will always recommend it to everyone I know. This book was rated a five out of five stars once again simply because of the last novella "Six Impossible things". Please please pick up this series๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™, like I stated before I am still engrossed by this series and I finish it in December of 2016. It is one of my favorite modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland, to my very core. All information will be listed below for this series.

Ensnared By AG Howard.

Hello everyone and welcome back to my book reviews. So today I have the third book in the Splintered Series by AG Howard title Ensnared. If you guys haven't picked up this series yet, where are you living? under a rock.. like seriously under a rock ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. This series is, in my opinion, one of the best modern-day retellings of Alice in Wonderland. AG Howard writing reminds me so much of Tim Burton Movies. She is that AMAZING ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป and if you don't believe me, why then buy the books yourself and you will see what I mean. So let's get to the details of the book, shall we?

Ensnared is the third book and technically the final book in the series. It is about Alyssa once again returning to Wonderland to fix family problems๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. But this book gets more interesting when Morpheus and Jeb finally understand they both have to work together in a way to also help Alyssa and wonderland. It's the final battle in a way between the love triangle ๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€ of the three. So who will it be? Will it be Jeb or Will it be Morpheus? Well, I can't tell you that, Duh. You honestly have to read the books to find out. Trust me though the ending is not something you will be likely to forget ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜. So just go already and pick up the series and read it.

Finally, I want to say I love the covers on these books. I always seem to forget to mention that but I do love the covers on AG Howard books, they are beautiful and colorful to the right amount. I rated this book a five out of five stars because like the rest I could not put it down. I am still so wrapped up in the series and I finish it in December of 2016. This modern-day retelling will forever be one of my faves and I will always love it to the core of my very soul. Please check it out, all information listed below for the series.
